Emma has spent the last two days painting. The first day it was great because it kept her busy all day. Yesterday, though, she became determined to paint pictures of dresses. For some reason she thinks she can't do this herself, which translates into ME painting lots of pictures of dresses. When I tried to encourage her to do it herself, she'd paint like a single line, then exclaim in frustration and throw the whole page away. To avoid this (as well as my having to paint any more dresses) I think I'm going to put the paints away this morning before she wakes up.

As time allows, I have been busy embroidering this week. I have never really embroidered anything until I got my Sublime Stitching book last week, but I'm really, really enjoying it. After Noah is asleep at night I make some tea and curl up on the couch with my project. Pulling the thread through the fabric up and down, over and over, feels really peaceful and almost meditative.Last night I made Roasted Fall Vegetables to go with our dinner. I wanted to use the leftovers to make Roasted Fall Vegetable Soup today, but the vegetables were so delicious that we ate them all last night. (Never mind that the recipe makes twelve servings.) Emma said, "Can we have butternut squash every day now?" I really had my heart set on some of that soup, however, so this morning we're going to the store to stock up on those yummy fall vegetables.

For this morning, the perfect Fall breakfast: Spicy Pear Bread (I used all whole wheat flour and subbed applesauce for 3/4 of the oil. Delicious!) and hot tea with a hint of honey and vanilla soymilk. Mmmmmmm.

Would Emma be happy if you drew up a bunch of dress outlines that she could paint?
