We have a window in our shower, and during the four years that we've lived here, the spraying water has taken a toll on the trim around the window. Yuck.
It was starting to look really awful and I had mentioned to Steve several times in the past that I'd like him to fix it. Steve has a lot of wonderful qualities, but since starting and finishing home improvement projects is not one of them, I decided to take matters into my own hands. Now, home improvement is definitely not my area of expertise. Come to think of it, I'm not sure I even have an area of expertise, but doing projects around the house is for sure my area of bumbling around cluelessly. Still, after talking to a couple of helpful gentlemen at Lowe's and then purchasing a few items, I set to work on the window. I sanded it all down, then applied spackle over all the rough spots. Once that was dry, I sanded again, then applied two layers of paint. Voila!I did all this yesterday, but didn't mention it to Steve because I wanted to surprise him. He noticed it this morning, and was apparently less than impressed. He said that I did it wrong, but whatever. I'd much rather have something done less than perfectly than not done at all. I am still proud of myself and happy that the window looks so much better than it did.

Tell Steve to go take a hike. I think it looks great and am really impressed that you knew how to do that! I would never in a million years attempt that job.

I guess it is no longer true that in the home repair area you are "bumbling around cluelessly". You are turning into a home repair genius like your dad!

Looks great to me! Tell Steve that until he gets better at starting and finishing home improvement projects, he has waived the right to be a critic. It may not be "perfect" or the way he'd have done it, but at least it looks a lot better and is DONE!

He is too lazy to do it himself has no room for criticism.

It looks awesome to me! I can't believe your kids let you have time to get it done!!

I think it looks good. I'm with you, if it gets done well then that's better than never done at all even if it's "perfect". Jerry takes forever at projects, even hanging a picture on the wall-has to be exactly level and centered.

I think it looks great, and if wanted it done 'pefectly' he should have done it himself, right?!

btw, I found your blog from your flickr and I love it! ( love your pics too)

Wow - that looks great. I'm so impressed that you did it yourself.

My motto: the "perfect" is the enemy of the "good." If I can't let myself settle for good (or good enough), I'll never get anything done at all!

Yay for you completing a project! And I don't know what your area of expertise is either, but I'd say these categories are in the running: crafts or cooking or photography or being a great mom =)

Ugh, I hate when men are like that. I ran into that this weekend too. If you don't help, you don't get to comment. That is my motto.

BTW, it looks great.

I applaud the job you did... My boyfriend is the same way! If I EVER ask if he needs help, it is almost always "Oh no, I can get it.", translation- you cannot possibly do it as well as I! I think you did a great job, it looks good...
