Last week one day, Emma asked me when she could get a cell phone. When I told her I didn't know, she asked me how old I was when I first got a cell phone. She seemed pretty incredulous when I told her I was 22, and even more shocked when I told her that cell phones didn't even exist when I was her age. We started talking about when different things were invented, and she asked if TVs were around when I was little. I said yes, but then told her that there weren't any TVs at all when her great-grandmas were little. "So they couldn't even watch movies?" she asked, as if she could hardly believe such a thing were possible. Noah, who had been listening to our conversation, thought about that for a second, then chimed in with, "Yes they could, Emma. They probably just watched them on their iPads!"

That's so charming, but it makes me feel old!

Cute. I had a younger friend all excited about her 5 year high school reunion. She asked me if they would notify her by facebook. Um, don't think they had FB when I was in HS so not sure!

Nicki, I hope you read this. Tom just ran into your mom at the recycling center this week. They were paying to dispose of tvs and microwaves that we don't want anymore and even Goodwill doesn't want either! I was seriously telling Tom we should all stop upgrading and pitching our old things. This post makes me think that's not likely!

Noah's comment made me laugh! Isn't it crazy how times have changed? AND, i'm amazed that at age 7 emma already wants a cell phone! I've heard of ones for kids that only have like 4 buttons that you program with specific numbers...but i'm guessing calling home or 911 is not the motive for her wanting a phone. :)

Isn't it crazy how normal these things seem to the kiddos?

That just made me laugh out loud, especially sinceI am one of the great grandmas who didn't have a TV until I was in high school. How did we old folks ever survive. Tell Noah we went to the movies on Sat. afternoon and saw a show, a serial, a cartoon and news report all for a dime.
